No power

The storm has knocked out my power. Its been at least 2 hours. Posted via my iPhone.

Monday arms/shoulders workout

I got in a full arms and shoulders workout at lunch today and it felt great. I upped the ante a bit once again. I did a total of 16,890 lbs., which is 10% better than last time. (There are diminishing returns to this and I don't expect to maintain such increases from week to [...]

Hugo Awards

On Saturday, I voted for the first time ever for the Hugo Awards. There are three votes which I was particularly proud to cast: 1. Best Novel: Rollback by Robert J. Sawyer. 2. Best Related Book: Breakfast in the Ruins by Barry N. Malzberg. 3. Best Editor, Short Form: Stanley Schmidt. I was also pleased [...]

“Perfect” anniversary

Perhaps there is already a name for this phenomenon, but if so, I am not aware of it. Suppose there is a special event that takes place, birthday, anniversary, etc. Suppose it take place on the nth day of the month. When the anniversary of the event is on the nth year, it should be [...]

Happy Birthday, Vicky!

Just wanted to wish a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the Vicky half of vickyandnorm. I hope you have a great (comfortable) birthday. Well done! Take two episodes of CSI Miami out of petty cash.

Weekend update

We had a busy day on Saturday and a less busy day on Sunday. We were up early on Saturday. We were supposed to go to Annapolis with AJ and Dennise, but I had a message from them in the morning saying that they wouldn’t be able to go. First order of business was getting [...]

Happy hour!

We attended our first happy hour in quite some time last night. We headed over to Crystal City Sports Pub and hung out with about 10 people from work. Happy hour beers were only $2.25, and appetizers were half price. Kelly and I hung out with the group for about 3 hours before deciding that [...]

I started a new story yesterday, once again writing on a yellow legal pad in longhand, and I managed to get down about 800 words. It’s a very rough draft, and the final draft of the story will ultimately look a lot different, but I am trying an approach that scottedelman described a while back, [...]

Friday lower body workout

I did get to the gym yesterday for an abbreviated lower body workout. I hadn't eaten properly beforehand, and I didn't want to push things, particularly since I pushed myself pretty hard on the lower body workout a week ago. So I did a little more than a third of a normal workout. My back [...]

Summer is here!

As of 7:59 PM Eastern, summer officially begins! One year ago today I noted that my microwave died. One year later, that same dead microwave is still sitting on the counter, having gone unused these last 366 days. It’s going out with the bulk trash on Wednesday.
