  • Backup!

    01 Jun 2008 » 1 min read

I realized this evening that it had been quite a while since I’d done a full backup of my data. I do regular incremental backups to my iDisk, but I hadn’t done a full data backup in a long time. I did one tonight and I feel much better.

  • A busy Saturday

I went to bed early last night and I was up early this morning. I took Dad over to Starbucks so he could get some coffee, then we came back home and I had breakfast. Around 9 AM, we headed out, first to fill up the car with gas, then to Home Depot to look…

  • Dad is in town!

Busy work day today. I worked something like 9 hours without even attempting to take a break. I skipped the gym and today was supposed to be my first lower body workout since starting back up at the gym again. I did start reading Carl Sagan’s The Cosmic Connection, one of the only books of…

  • Birdhouse in your soul

I worked late. I spent the last 2-1/2 hours of the day getting the application we’ve been developing for the last year to compile on my machine. Microsoft tends to make these things a lot more complicated than they have to be. I tried it one way and it didn’t work, so I tried it…

  • Ethical laziness

    29 May 2008 » 1 min read

I’ve spoke often here about my efforts to do the right thing, be it returning money that I found, correcting someone when they give me too much change, etc. It seems only fair that I report my ethical missteps as well. Yesterday’s dinner was a prime example. Before the movie, we went to Panera Bread…

  • Thursday cardio workout

    29 May 2008 » 1 min read about Fitness & Health

Another lunchtime cardio workout. I did 40 minutes, once again on level 3 and this time I pushed myself a bit. I stayed at about 81-82 RPM the entire time and I did a total of 586 calories and 3.13 miles. My heart rate was back up but that’s to be expected with the higher…

  • Movie night

    29 May 2008 » 1 min read

After a long, tough day at work, Kelly and I decided to take a night off and go to the movies. We headed over to the Balston Mall to see Indiana Jones. It was a blast. The movie didn’t take itself seriously, which was great because it made it even more fun. Even the very…

  • Wednesday strength workout

    28 May 2008 » 1 min read about Fitness & Health

I did my first chest/back workout in a long time today. Actually, it was about 3/5ths of a full workout. I wanted to keep it light because (a) I didn’t want to overdo it, and (b) I wanted to start close to where I left off in terms of weight. I did 10,360 lbs. I…

  • Back to writing

    28 May 2008 » 1 min read about Writing & Publishing

The June issue of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN arrived today and reminded me that I have notes from an earlier issue on a new story. That in turn reminded me that I now had nothing “out” and nothing of note in the pipeline. And with all of the move planning (and now wedding planning) that’s happening, it…

  • The lawnmower is not broken

    28 May 2008 » 1 min read

When I last mowed the lawn, about 10 days ago, I suspected that I might have busted the mower. Turns out, I plug came loose and when I popped the plug back in this afternoon before attempting to cut the grass in the backyard, the mower started just fine. That’s good because I don’t know…
