  • Fighters, Writers and Heroes

    29 Oct 2006 » 1 min read

So I’m taking it easy this evening, and am about to get caught up on the latest episodes of Battlestar Galactica and Studio 60, a-la the magic of the iTunes Store. In addition, I am downloading the first 5 episodes of Heroes based solely on a recommendation by vickyandnorm. They were the ones who got…

  • Double feature

    28 Oct 2006 » 1 min read

I’m just back from treating myself to a double-feature this afternoon. I went to see a 1 PM showing of The Prestige and followed that with a 3:45 PM showing of Flags of Our Fathers. Both were good movies, but I think I enjoyed The Prestige more simply because it had great acting and a…

  • Spelling and last words

    28 Oct 2006 » 1 min read

I came across this gem in mental_floss this morning: Upon being handed his official death sentence by French revolutionaries, Thomas de Mahy (the Marquis de Favras) cooly stated, “I see that you have made three spelling mistakes.” For some reason, it made me think of strausmouse.

  • You can call me Al

I got to Buffalo Bills exactly at 7 PM and naturally, I was the first person there. Denisse showed up about 10 minutes later and then her friends started arriving. AJ didn’t get there until almost an hour later. I spent time talking to Denisse and also to a friend of hers from Finland. Denisse…

  • Mentally flossing

    27 Oct 2006 » 1 min read about Reading & Books

I’ve spent the last 20 minutes or so starting to read the latest issue of mental_floss and I love it. It is (a) informative in a (b) hilarious way. I’ve never seen a magazine quite like it. In some ways, the humor reminds me of the stories that strausmouse and I used to write in…

  • Veteran’s Day and Amtrak Select

    27 Oct 2006 » 1 min read about Reading & Books

I found out that I get Veteran’s Day off this year and seeing as how that gives me a long weekend, I was considering my options. I logged onto Amtrak to check some schedule information, and when I logged into my Guest Rewards account, I found out that I have qualified for their Guest Rewards…

  • Mets win the World Series (20 years ago)!

    27 Oct 2006 » 1 min read about Sports

Those of you Mets fans out there disappointed at the Mets loss to St. Louis, can at the very least revel in the fact the on this day in history, 20 years ago, the Mets won the World Series.

  • Spelling out my issues with spelling

    27 Oct 2006 » 4 min read

I have had enough comments about my spelling error to warrant an explanation on my thoughts and philosophy on spelling. You may or may not agree with me, but at least from here on out, we will all be on the same page. (I just realized that “on the same page” may not be an…

  • mental_floss and bluish hues

    27 Oct 2006 » 2 min read about Reading & Books

Ever since I subscribed to mental_floss magazine last month, I’ve been anxiously awaiting my first copy. But I haven’t received anything, even though my account status indicates that I should have. So this morning, I reported the problem and shortly thereafter, got a response from one of their people saying that the Nov-Dec 2006 issue…

  • Workout #36 (lower body w/Bernard)

    27 Oct 2006 » 1 min read about Fitness & Health

This was a good workout and except for some harder stuff toward the end, I’ve gotten to feel as though I’ve passed a milestone and hit my stride. My eating is getting better and more consistent (far from perfect, but better). And I’m feeling good during the workouts.

  • Off to the gym

    26 Oct 2006 » 1 min read

I’m on my way to the gym in a minute, but I thought I’d mention that I was just invited to Denisse’s (of AJ and Denisse fame) going away drinking bash tomorrow evening. Denisse heads to Switzerland on Monday to finish up her Ph.D (AJ will be staying here in town) and she’s having this…

  • Arm ache

    26 Oct 2006 » 1 min read

My left arm has been aching since this morning, from my elbow to my wrist. I’ve taken a couple of doses of Advil and that seems to have no effect. It’s not too bad, mostly a dull ache. But it’s frustrating because I can’t think of what I did to cause the ache.
