Retiring some stories

Every few years, I go through the stories that I’ve written and have failed to sell, and ultimately retire them. Since I’ve been doing this, I’ve gone through a few rounds of this, and each round represents a generation of my stories. Each round, also, I like to thing, represents a better and better set [...]

October ANALOG has arrived!

I got the October ANALOG in the mail today, and I’ve been waiting for this one in particular because it’s got the first of a four-part serial by Robert J. Sawyer called “Rollback”. I’ve only read a few of Sawyer’s books, but I have completely enjoyed each one that I have read. The appearance of [...]

Major allergy attack!

I’m in the midst of the worst allergy attack that I can ever remember. Eyes and nose were itching like crazy, all the way home on the train. It was all I could do to avoid tearing my eyes out! As soon I got in the house, I downed a couple of Benedryl. That was [...]

A passage to India

At lunch today, I finally made it to India. Ancient India, anyway. I finished “book 1″ of Our Oriental Heritage and am now into “book 2″, which covers India. It is the shortest of the three “books” within the overall book. At the rate I’ve been going, lately, it’ll take me a little while before [...]

Itz a puzzle, alright

In the mall above which I work, there used to be a store that sold videos (DVDs, etc.) right between Haagen Daas and Johnny Rockets. A few weeks ago, that store closed up. In it’s place, opened a new store called Itz a Puzzle, which is a retail store that sells, you guessed it, puzzles. [...]

What makes a grown man cry?

When I got home from work this evening, I wolfed down my chicken and veggies (no more bad carbs after 7 PM–trainers orders), and turned on the TV. On HBO Signature, Field of Dreams was just starting. I was wiped out from the workout and so I figured what the heck, even though I have [...]

Workout #9 (with Bernard)

This afternoon was another workout with Bernard. My knee was fine throughout the whole thing, but it’s still slightly uncomfortable on the stairs. In any event, today was a chest and abdominal workout day. And it was one of the toughest workouts yet (I felt particularly weak!)

Updated meal log

True to my word, I will continue to post my meal log. Keep in mind that during some of this time, I had a cold and wasn’t always eating. You can find the latest below.

Softball Team Photo

Here is a great picture of the team after the game last night. We play on the National Mall, and yes, that is the U.S. Capitol building in the background. From left-to-right, back row: Jeremy (SF), Lou (kneeling) (1B), me (SS), Drew (2B), Rob (CF), Casey (standing) (LF) Front row, seated: Colby (3B), Kristy (P), [...]

Knee update

The knee is fine this morning. A little tender going up and down the stairs, but full mobility and no pain. No swelling either. I have a session with Bernard this afternoon (fortunately, we did lower body yesterday) and I will be asking him about ways of strengthening the muscles around my knee so that [...]

We lost a close one!

Well, we lost another softball game, but this time it was close. The final score was 20-17 and it was back and forth all the way. Our team played really hard and should be proud. I went 3-5 and played short the whole game. I had a four or five chances and made some decent [...]

Off to softball

We have three games left in the season beginning to night, and I’m itching for a win. We have 2 games next week, so if we can we all three, we’ll do alright this season.
