Today was a lazy day and it was great. We slept in until around 9 AM, then headed to a relatively empty grocery store to do some grocery shopping. Came back home, at breakfast and then lazed around for hours while doing laundry and watching TV.
About mid-afternoon, we headed out to get some air, up to Greenbelt lake. The weather was a little cool, but bright and sunny and the lake was crowded with lots of Easter picnics. We walked twice around the lake, getting our exercise for the day, before coming back home.
For dinner, I made ravioli (large ones this time) and spaghetti sauce, to which I added, while the sauce was still heating up, some hot pepper that gave it a nice kick. And for dessert we had apple pie, which we got at the store. Then more TV watching and lazing around until all of the laundry was done. Kelly headed home around 7 PM. I won’t see her until Thursday (I’m going there on Thursday this week instead of Wednesday because my birthday is Thursday and we’re going out for a birthday dinner.)
I’m packing my lunch and then heading off to bed. I’m 65 pages into Factoring Humanity and I plan on getting another hour or so of reading in before lights-out. Tomorrow evening I hope to finish up the revisions on “The Golden Watch”.
Called he11o_sunshine and stubiebrother today but got voicemail. Maybe I’ll talk to them later in the week.
I’m working from home today and I made sure to get an early start (6 AM) even though I’m home because I wanted to make sure I had time to run a few quick errands before heading off Orland tonight. So after putting in 3 straight hours (between 6 and 9 AM), I took a short break to take care of a few things:
- Picked up the Orioles tickets from FedEx
- Stopped in a Petco to get more litter for Zeke; while there, also got him new food and water dishes
- Picked up some spring water because I was all out
- Emptied all of the trash and took out the recycling
- Started a load of laundry
The new “dishes” I got for Zeke are the kind where you can put 5 lbs of dry food and a gallon of water so that there is a constant amount of each. He already had one like that for water but it was getting old and cleaning it didn’t seem to help much. He was a little suspicious of them at first, but he warmed up to them quickly.
I didn’t mail my tax papers to the accountant yet. I’ll do that before heading over to Kelly’s later this afternoon. I also need to gas up the car. Finally, I need to pack. I’m waiting for the load of laundry to finish, but based on the forecast for Orlando through the weekend, I’m bringing the pair of jeans that I’m wearing, 3 pair of shorts, some t-shirts, a swimming suit and gym clothes. Packing light. The weather looking to be beautiful.
Our flight isn’t until 9:30 tonight. I’m heading over to Kelly’s later and we’ll head to the airport around 6:30 or so. It means we’ll get there a little early, but we’ll go hang out at the Red Carpet Club.
I checked with Powell’s: my copies of Asimov’s Annotated Don Juan and Asimov’s Annotated Gilbert & Sullivan are due to arrive at some point today.
Another busy work day, but I did get to sleep in a little because I was at Kelly’s and that’s a much shorter commute to the office. Busy all day long and once again, didn’t really get a lunch break.
Got home this evening and did a bunch of chores: cleaned the kitchen, cleaned up Zeke’s litter, collected the mail, took out the trash. I got my renewal for United Mileage Plus Premier in the mail today. Also, it looks like FedEx tried to deliver the Orioles season tickets package yesterday, but I wasn’t home. They said they’d try back today before 7 PM. We’ll see. It’s 6:30 PM now. Also got my Amex bill in the mail.
I finally–finally–set up automatic payments of all my bills through Premier America’s bill pay. I’ve been using Bill Pay for years, but in a manual fashion. Now it’s completely automated. One less thing to think about.
I started reading The Left Hand of Darkness yesterday but didn’t get very far. I’ve made better progress so far today, although it’s still slow-going. The book started off very slowly. It’s dense and full of imagery that requires thought on many levels. But it has picked up somewhat and I’m finding now that I’m enjoying it.
Less than a week until we head off to Disney World and I am so looking forward to that right now. I can really use the break.
I’ve got Macaroni and Cheese going on the stove. Dinner. Yum.
Somehow, we managed to sleep in late this morning, even for us. I didn’t get up until 9:30. Kelly was already up. We made waffles for breakfast and then Kelly headed off to the gym while I did some reading.
Spoke to Denisse this morning. She and AJ are coming over for New Year’s Eve and the four of us will be ringing in the New Year together. I’ve got to do some grocery shopping this afternoon, and we’ll be heading back to my house shortly so that I can do that and Kelly can do some laundry.
This evening, we are going to Kelly’s friend Sara’s house to watch the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots, thereby ruining their perfect season. I can’t wait for that, and I’m not even a football fan.
Weather is supposed to be pleasant today. Partly sunny with temperatures in the upper 50s. Not as nice as this time last week, but not as cold as it is going to be in Minneapolis where Trevor and thepopeswife live.
I completed the B’s tonight in the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and am about to start in on the C’s. I’m 182 pages through the book, nearly 15% complete.
Did some grocery shopping earlier, but didn’t get my hair cut. At around 2 PM, I made Macaroni and Cheese for a late lunch and then went ahead and ate the entire box full. It was the first time I’d made it in a long time and it was very good. Hit the spot.
Also did a ton of laundry and got rid of a bunch of trash, including some cooking stuff (like sugar and cooking oil and vinegar) that had been in a cupboard for years. Cleaned out the fridge too.
Tomorrow, I’m back to the gym for the first time in a few months. I’m getting up at 4:20 AM and working my way back into my previous routine. 5 small meals/day, with no carbs at the last meal of the day, and 6 workouts per week.
It rained this evening. We may even have some snow later in the week. Kelly and I are going to reprise our trip to Old Town Wednesday after work. Maybe this time there won’t be so many cars there.
I’ve had songs from Mary Poppins in my head all day long. Right now it’s “Feed the Birds”.
