My Best Walking Shoes Ever!

I tend to be a creature of habit. Once I find something I like, I stick with it. Some of this is due to personality, and some of it is due to decision fatigue. For instance, back in September, my old sneakers wore out and I went out and bought a new pair, essentially the same pair of New Balance sneakers I’d been buying for a long time. With all of the walking I do, shoes don’t last as long as they used to. In fact, those New Balance shoes lasted 210 days.

During the course of those 210 days, I put more than 2.3 million steps1 on those shoes, or just over 1,000 miles of walking. The bottoms were worn out and the toe area of one of the shoes had split. It was time for a new pair of shoes.

I decided to look around online for quality shoes for walking. One of the shoes that quickly drifted to the top of the list was a brand I’d never heard of before, Saucony. I went to the shoe store and picked up a pair of Suacony Mayham shoes–and they are by far the best walking shoes I’ve ever had.

Compared to my old New Balance, the shoes are much lighter and airier. Whereas it usually took a few uncomfortable days to break in the New Balance, there was no discomfort at all with the Suacony shoes. I’ve had them for 2 weeks now and have already put nearly 250,000 steps (~113 miles) on them, and they are as light and comfortable as ever.  The only real question at this point is to see how durable they will be. The New Balance lasted 210 days. Spring is here and summer is coming and I walk more and more as we move through summer into fall. So I wonder how long the Saucony’s will last. Will they outlast the New Balance?

Right now, it doesn’t matter. I like the shoes so much that even if they didn’t last quite as long as the New Balance, I’d buy another pair.
