Workout #53 (chest & back)

Up at 4:30 AM and into the gym just before 5:50 AM. Today was chest and back and at first I thought about taking it a bit easy because my abs are pretty sore from the leg lifts yesterday (which were pretty intense). But then I remembered what it was I was trying to do and I focused on a full workout.

A few more observations from the gym:

The most distracting thing in the gym are the girls who are there every day and look as though they have been working out all their lives. I’m not talking about all muscled up, just, well, very good, very distracting. On the other hand, when one of these girls is working out nearby, I find myself adding a few extra pounds to whatever I’m doing, or doing a few extra reps. Not that anyone ever notices.

I was on my third set of straight chest presses, struggling to do a full set at 115 lbs (literally grunting). Meanwhile, the guy on the bench next to me was benching 490 lbs. That can make you feel a little under-powered, if you know what I mean. Especially when one of the aforementioned girls is nearby (you can guess who she is watching). On the other hand, his sweatshirt was sopping wet and smelled like it hadn’t been washed in a month. So there are trade-offs.

For the first time today, after my shower, I sat in the sauna for about 10 minutes and it was great. Very relaxing. I’m not exactly sure what the sauna does (opens pores, whatever) but it felt good sitting there and it is quite possible that I am addicted to it now. There was no one else in there when I got there, but there were three people by the time I left. Still, it was quiet and hot and very relaxing.

Next workout is cardio tomorrow morning.
