About Jamie Todd Rubin

Jamie Todd Rubin was born in New York City in 1972. He spent the first ten years of his life in New Jersey, and Rhode Island. In 1983, Jamie moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, where he lived for the next two decades. In 2002, he moved back east and currently resides in Riverdale, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

Jamie graduated high school in 1990 and attended the University of California, Riverside. He graudated from UCR in 1994 with a B.A. in Politica Science and a minor in Journalism. During his time at UCR, Jamie took a number of creative writing courses, under the instruction of writers such as Stephen Minot and Susan Straight.

Soon after graudating, Jamie started working for a public policy think-tank in the Information Technology group. Eventually, he moved into software development. He has been working there ever since. He has an extensive background in database development, LAMP development, C# and AJAX development. He has specialized in business process automation systems.

In 2000, Jamie achived one of his childhood dreams. After 9 months of training and passing a written, oral, and practical test, he received his private pilot's license. He flew primarily out of Van Nuys airport, just north of Los Angeles. He did his flight training at Group 3 Avaiation.

Jamie has been an avid fan of science fiction since childhood. He is widely read in the genre, and particularly enjoys "golden age" science fiction and science fiction from the 1970s. His favorite authors include Isaac Asimov, Barry Malzberg, Harlan Ellison, Alfred Bester and Joe Haldeman.

In 1993, Jamie began to try his hand at writing science fiction. Since then, he has worked sporadically, producing about 30 stories. He accumulated about 100 rejection slips before making his first professional sale to Edmund Schubert at InterGalactic Medicine Show, in January 2007. His story, "When I Kissed the Learned Astronomer", appeared in InterGalactic Medicine Show's July 2007 issue.
