2 walks and a firefly

I went for two walks this evening to clear my head. The first time around I was trying to clear my head from the days thoughts, mostly work related, class and UML work for an application I am working on. I did a lot of white-boarding in my office today and that kind of thought [...]

We won our 3rd softball game last night–in extra innings!

Last night was the most incredible game I’d ever played in. Not only did the game go into extra innings (we were playing one of the best teams in the league), but the game was all defense. We won in the 8th inning with a final score 5-3. (No, you are not seeing things; that [...]

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is Mom’s birthday and even though we celebrated this past weekend in Las Vegas, I just wanted to wish you a great big: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have a great day.

Video Age

Just about my entire team works in Santa Monica. Two of the team members work in Pittsburgh and I am the only one here in Washington. That means most of my meetings are audio-conferences. I rarely see faces. While we have video conferencing rooms, we never use them. Today, however, I installed a Logitech QuickCamTM [...]

Flying to the moon

The moon is roughly 238,000 miles from the Earth on average. On my recent trip to L.A. and Las Vegas, I passed the 238,000 lifetime mile mark on United Airlines. I’ve flown the distance to the moon on United! It seems to me that there should be some kind of award for passing this milestone. [...]

Writing

I just did almost 700 words of a story tonight. The working title is “Situational Awareness” but I think that title is going to change before the story is over. I’m pleased with what I wrote and that I did any writing at all tonight. As a reward, I’m treating myself to dinner at the [...]

Musicovery

I got this from jkashlock and didn’t get around to trying it until this afternoon. It is pretty cool, especially how you can control the mood of the music. I really like that. http://musicovery.com/index.php?ct=us strausmouse and Linky Lisa (a.k.a. kruppenheimer) will get a kick out of this, if they haven’t already seen it.

One month!

At 4 PM today, it will be exactly one month until I am on vacation. My vacation officially begins at 4 PM on Friday, June 29. In fact, since I am taking a month off of work, my vacation will last as long as this month leading up to it!

Balticon 2007

I attended my first ever Balticon science fiction convention today. It was the last day of the convention and I got to the hotel just before the convention opened, having driven straight there from Dulles airport (my flight from Las Vegas got in at about 7:30 AM). It was a lot of fun but I [...]

He comes home a winner (Las Vegas, Day 2)

Yesterday was a long day and today felt even longer. You already know that yesterday (Sunday) started at about 6 AM for me, when I headed to the gym for a light workout (arms and shoulders). Well, eventually, Jen and Jason got up and we all scrambled off to First Breakfast. I had a massive [...]

My Balticon schedule

I’ll be spending the day tomorrow (Memorial Day) at the last day of the Balticon convention. Based on the list of panels for tomorrow, here are the sessions that I plan to attend: 10 AM: Reading by William Shunn (shunn) 11 AM: Tony Ruggiero’s Quick-Write 1 PM: Come Ask the Author About Writing 2 PM: [...]

Saturday surprise!

[Written on May 27 and backdated to May 26] Saturday was a long day! I was up at 5 AM because I couldn’t sleep any longer. I packed up the remainder of my stuff and headed off to LAX to catch my plane to Las Vegas. There were no lines. I checked in at the [...]
