Haircut and a shopping, two cents!

I finally got around to getting a haircut today. It was slightly overdue and I feel much better. Getting a haircut is much like mowing the lawn. There is something about looking at a freshly mowed lawn that reminds me of a new haircut, and there is something about a new haircut that reminds me [...]

Workshop critiques

I spent the early part of the evening at my “second job”, namely writing. I wasn’t actually working on anything of mine. I’ll get to that a little later this evening. Instead, I wrote the first of a couple of story critiques for the writer’s workshop that I joined after Ravencon. The next meeting is [...]

To Santa Monica?

I found out that my team is going to probably be having a retreat the week of May 21 and that I will likely be flying out there, for at least a few days, to take part. (It’s not really a retreat in the sense of a bunch of us going off to a fancy [...]

One Sunday, two breakfasts

I was up sometime around 7:30 AM when I noticed that the power was out in the house. (Ironic, because the SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN article I had been reading was called “Preventing Blackouts” by Massoud Amin and Phillip F. Schewe (May 2007)) Jen said she’d heard a gunshot-like sound and I figured it was a transformer. [...]

Saturday morning

I got a pretty good night’s sleep last night and I was up at about 7:30 this morning, and spent some time browsing online. In noticed that Tangent Online recently reviewed issue #4 of Intergalactic Medicine Show, touching briefly on each story in the issue. (In fact, the magazine has reviewed all of the first [...]

Plot threads and names

More plotting tonight on NextLife. I wrote a very rough outline of one entire plot thread that runs through the complete story, with two of the six major characters as the primary people in the thread. This is an important thread as it serves as the backbone for the rest of the story and provides [...]

Retro

After skimming my 1996 diary subsequent to the previous entry: April 29, 2006 — …I also started working on an image of a new Toshiba laptop: the T410CS. It’s a Pentium 90 MHz, 16 MB RAM, 800x600x256 display, multimedia CDROM. It’s pretty cool! Time have changed!

Happy 11th anniversary Rich and Tricia!

Rich and Tricia (dear friends from college) celebrate their 11th wedding anniversary today. I was Rich’s best man in their wedding (the second time I’d performed that duty) and going back to my diary entry from 11 years ago today, it is one the longest entries that I’ve got, taking up nearly 4 pages of [...]

Mow, mow, mow your lawn…

I finally cut the grass for the second time this year this evening. I was nervous to do so on two accounts. First, the last time I cut the grass, it snowed a few days later and I want no more snow this season. Snow’s over folks. Second, I’d but off cutting for quite some [...]

Can I buy a vowel?

Great theme for this week’s A.Word.A.Day mailing list. The theme was: Words having vowels aeiou once and only once, and in order. The words were: annelidous – of or relating to worms facetious – Jocular or humorous, often inappropriately anemious – Growing in windy conditions caesious – Bluish or grayish green abstemious – Sparing, especially [...]

Outgoing voicemail

People trying to call me this week have occasionally expressed their frustration in the fact that I always seem to be in meetings. If they feel frustrated, imagine how I must feel. I change my outgoing message everyday, giving people an idea of when I am going to in meetings. In order to defray some [...]

Workout #90 (Cardio)

Up at 4:30 AM and into the gym by 5:50 AM. I pushed myself a little harder this morning, feeling somewhat guilty for not having gotten any strength training this week. But it was a good workout, nonetheless.
